I am having some trouble setting up replication on my MSDE 2000 server installation.
When using the set up replication set up wizard, I get through all the screens
correctly, the Distrubution database is created, and then I get error 14113 - Could
not execute c:\...\osql" -E -I60 -t60 -d"distribution" -b -i "..\instdist.sql" -o
"..\instdist.out"
I am using the enterprise manager to enable replication. I have successfully enabled distributor / replication on other installations prior to this one.
I have attached the instdist.out file as a text file.
Any feedback would be appreciated!I'm having the exact same problem. Figure anything out yet?

Replication Error 14113

Replication between SQL server 2000 and MSDE (error 20084)
Hello,
We have an application to do some replication between SQL Server 2000 and
MSDE. After a good install of MSDE, we have this error : "20084 The process
could not connect to Subscriber" when we try to synchronyse data.
So, the replication is OK on another PC (they don't have the same network)
What do you think about that ? Any idea ?
Thank you very much.
Pascal.
Are you using transactional or merge? push or pull?
Does the error also give you a reason why the connection failed? Login
failed etc?
First of all make sure that you are able to connect to the subscriber server
from the machine where the agent is running using osql etc using the same
security context that the agent is using.
I would suggest you look at the sqlserveragent startup account on the server
where the job is running (assuming you are running this as a job) to see if
it has access to the subscriber.
Also try changing the subscriber login to use SQL authentication to see if
that helps.

Have your subscriber been enabled as a subscriber on the publisher how is it
accessing the subscriber - the impersonate the SQL Server agent option or
the SQL account option?

We use merge replication.
No it doesn't, we have only this raison : "The process could not connect to
subscriber".
For the rest of your reply, we're going to see that to day.
So we answer you on next monday.

Replication between MSDE and SQL Server 2000
I got a corporate machine has SQL Server 2000 installed. And a laptop has
MSDE installed. Is this complicated to setup a 2 way replication in SQL
Server 2000 Enterprise Manager?
Not at all. The MSDE can't be set up as a transactional publisher, and most
people set up the MSDE as a subscriber because of the topology they're using
anyway. Apart from that it's pretty straightforward. Configuration of MSDE
on a separate bix when you can't connect to it using EM can be more
difficult though.

Could you tell me where can I get the detailed steps to set up the
replication process between the SQL Server 2000 and the laptop MSDE ?
As I am investigating the database to do this project, MSDE is an option,
and Firebird is another but I can only find some trial version of components
which have some limitations.
The reason why I need to do the replication is the sales persons bring the
laptop on site and then back to office hook up to the corporate sever
database and the replication can be done on demand or by schedule. So it
depends on if I can experiment that SQL Server 2000 and MSDE is a good
combination, the project will use this combination, otherwise, Firebird or
MySQL.

Replication and MSDE Upgrade
I have a merge replication set up with a SQL 2000 publisher and an MSDE
subscriber. We are at a point where we are considering upgrading the MSDE
install to SQL 2000. I know the install/upgrade process is relatively simple.
Are there any precautions or issues with replication in upgrading from MSDE
to full SQL.
Thank you,
JH
No there are none, I take it that you are using push subscriptions correct?

Replication advice
Hello,
I have 30 remote WinXP sites connected to a Win 2K3 server via VPN.
Each remote site runs MSDE. Basically, they are automated data aquisition
machines recording into a DB about 200K of data every 15 minutes.
The data at each remote site needs to be replicated into its own DB on the
Win 2K3 server on a regular basis, hopefully within 1 or 2 hours of being
first recorded..
What form of replication would be recommended for this scenario?
Thank you
Unfortunately MSDE cannot be a transactional publisher which is the best fit
for what you are trying to do. What you will have to do is use merge
replication with the with the exchangetype being upload only.

Replicating MSDE & SQL2000
Hi All,
What is the best way to merge/replicate SQL2000 & MSDE? We have an app that
laptop users will be running locally when not connected to the network.
When they come into the office we want their local DB on their laptop which
would be MSDE to connect to the SQL2000 Server and the 2 databases to update
each other.
Any references/websites addressing this would be great.
Thanks
Lee
I think you will want to use merge replication. It was designed for just
this kind of situation. Replication is a rather broad topic. The BOL has
lots of information. I would recommend setting up a couple of test databases
and experimenting with replication, just to get familiar with it.
